Urban Survival

If you live in or near a city, you'll be facing unique challenges if the complicated network of services that keeps you supplied with warmth, food, and a thousand other things comes unraveled - even for a little while. Most of the people around you won't have even the most basic knowledge necessary to keep themselves alive for more than a very short time...but you don't have to fall into the same category.

Ragnar's Urban Survival

Arguably the survival guide for city dweller's seeking to cope with a complete systemic collapse. Ragnar is a survivalist, but fortunately he doesn't preach about biblical endtimes or racial warfare.

Survival In The City

474 pages of detailed information about surviving just about anything that a city can throw at you. Excellent.

Crisis Preparedness Handbook

An excellent guide, though it is geared for short-term crises.

The Rural Ranger

This guidebook combines outdoors skills with modern technology and everyday items that can be found around the house.

Tom Brown's Guide to City and Suburban Survival

The sort of field guide you would expect from Tom Brown. Look in WILDERNESS SURVIVAL for his other books.

The Integral Urban House

This one is a hard book to fit into a category, since it's as much or more about urban homesteading as anything else, and it won't keep you alive if you wait until the crisis is happening before you start flipping through its pages. What it will do, if you read it (and put it to use) now, is a good deal more interesting. This is a handbook for putting together an urban homestead that produces most of the food needed by its owners, and wastes almost nothing. Gardening, rabbit and chicken raising, composting, and many other skills covered in detail. Invaluable.

The City People's Book of Raising Food

Also by Helga Olkowski., the chief author of The Integral Urban House.

Planting Green Roofs and Living Walls

A complete textbook on how it is done.
